Cécile McLorin Salvant
$41 – $156 | 7:30 – 9 pm
Bacchus Landing | 14210 Bacchus Landing Way | Healdsburg
More than a generational talent, Cécile McLorin Salvant is a game-changing vocalist, composer and bandleader with a boundless creative vision. The late soprano Jessye Norman described her as “a unique voice supported by an intelligence and full-fledged musicality, which light up every note she sings.” More than her extraordinary voice, what sets Salvant apart is her expansive palette of references. Her jazz universe encompasses blues, cabaret, baroque and folk music from around the world. An eclectic curator who revels in interpreting rarely recorded songs full of unexpected twists and humor, she’s also an ambitious composer and savvy bandleader. With Grammy Awards for three consecutive albums– 2015’s For One To Love, 2017’s Dreams and Daggers, and 2018’s The Window–she’s joined by her longtime creative foil Sullivan Fortner, the brilliant New Orleans pianist who recently won a Grammy himself for his latest album, Southern Nights, and his Trio, featuring Yasushi Nakamura (bass) and Kyle Poole (drums).
Thank you, Healdsburg Jazz Patrons and underwriters Christine Hoang & Paul Nakada, and Anonymous.

Miles Davis Centennial Concert with Willie Jones III Quintet ft. Jeremy Pelt
$41 – $131 | 2 – 3:30 pm
Paul Mahder Gallery | 222 Healdsburg Ave | Healdsburg
One of the most persuasively swinging drummers in jazz, Willie Jones III is a Los Angeles native who was mentored by Billy Higgins. He first gained attention in the mid-1990s with the acclaimed LA hard-bop combo Black/Note, the same group that launched bassist and Healdsburg Jazz Artistic Director Marcus Shelby. While Shelby headed north to San Francisco toward the end of the decade, Jones lit out for New York City, where he made an indelible mark with trumpeter Roy Hargrove’s Quintet from 1998-2006. Hired by a succession of jazz legends, from Sonny Rollins and Bobby Hutcherson to Michael Brecker and Cedar Walton (taking over the chair defined by Higgins), Jones gradually built a reputation as a commanding bandleader in his own right. He’s joined by trumpet great Jeremy Pelt, a prolific recording artist with a huge, crackling sound. Willie Jones III (drums), Jeremy Pelt (trumpet), James Mahone (tenor saxophone), Tyler Bullock (piano), and Marcus Shelby (bass).
