Healdsburg Jazz is proud and honored to officially announce Tammy L. Hall as the Healdsburg Jazz 2021 Artist in Residence.

Tammy Lynn Hall is a world-class pianist and composer whose music is representative of the entire breadth of Black American Music from its spiritual roots to modern approaches to blues, ballads, and swing. 

Tammy was born in Dallas, Texas, and began playing piano at the age of 4 years old. Her musical training ground was performing for two different church choirs while growing up, which explains her strong foundation of the blues and Black Music. She attended the prestigious Mills College on an academic and musical scholarship from 1979-1981 and began working in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene during this time period.

Tammy is a first-call accompanist and impeccable music director and has performed many times for Healdsburg Jazz throughout the years. We have already begun our work with Tammy as she was a featured artist in our MLK DAY Video titled “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Through the Eyes of Children”, which you can find in the Curated Content section of this website.

As an artist in residence, we look forward to supporting Tammy in her work as a composer, educator, and musician. On March 31, 2021 we presented her project titled “Convergence” a fictitious musical meeting between legendary artists Mary Lou Williams and Nina Simone, that features the extraordinary pianist Victoria Theodore and our very own Tammy L. Hall, accompanied by Ruth Davies (bass), Sylvia Cuenca (drums), and RyanNicole (spoken word), which you can also find in the curated content section of this website. Tammy will also be an important part of our virtual educational outreach to our schools and will also be part of our special membership gatherings.

Tammy is an incredible community advocate and the finest representative of our art and culture.
