Healdsburg Jazz Announces 2022 Artist in Residence:
Destiny Muhammad
“I am truly honored to be the Healdsburg Jazz 2022 Artist in Residence. This residency is a beautiful gift that offers me the opportunity to create new compositions that speak of the paradigm-shifting COVID 19 pandemic and its spiritual impact on our communities. This residency also creates the space for me to publicly honor my JAZZ Harp jegnas such as Alice Turiyasngetananda Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby and their contributions to the sound of JAZZ, ” Destiny Muhammad.
Destiny Muhammad will be a central part of our programming for 2022 including as a featured artist in our Summer Festival, a teaching artist for our educational programming, composing and creating a new work that reflects on the pandemic, and hosting one of our educational Zoom talks on February 27, 2022 “Harp Meets Jazz.” You can learn more about Destiny Muhammad and her work on her website at www.destinymuhammad.net/home.
Healdsburg Jazz began its Artist in Residency program last year with pianist and composer Tammy Lynne Hall and Poet Laureate Enid Pickett. Our artist in residence program is about supporting the work of creative musicians and artists who represent the values, artistic excellence, and community goals of our organization. We are honored to partner with our 2022 Artist in Residence Destiny Muhammad.
We asked Destiny to create a playlist of inspirational music to share that you can access here:
